Principal's Message
Island View Families:
It is remarkable to me that we have entered the final two weeks of school. We’ve enjoyed a great year of (almost) normalcy.
We once again had unrestricted all-school assemblies, music concerts, field trips, and a color run where all students could share the same starting line😊. We also had more volunteers in the building than we have had since COVID shut the schools. Next year—let’s shoot for even more!
I hope you have a relaxing and joy-filled summer. As an empty-nester, I long for those slow summer days of playing outside or beach combing with my boys. Savor the special moments.
Also, look for opportunities to keep your students academically engaged. Set aside reading time—both independent time and time together. Look for “math moments”—at the grocery store, driving along and counting signs, and giving math problems when you’re having fun (one fun example I remember with my youngest son: “if we each throw the baseball at one another every 15 seconds, how many throws will we do in five minutes?”). Finally, I hope you enjoy our incomparable forest lands and library. We are a blessed bunch in Anacortes.
I look forward to seeing you in the fall.
As always, please contact me with your questions, concerns, and suggestions:
bhanrahan@asd103.org or at 360-503-1490.

Message from PTA President
As the final month of the 2022-23 school year approaches, I would like to say thank you to everyone that has made an impact on our PTA and the school this year.
We have had some amazing events: family fun nights, restaurant takeovers, chocolate sales, I Love to Read month, and the Color Run just to name a few. Those wouldn't have been possible without the help of our hard-working, creative members. Thank you Molly Johnson, Amber Fry, and Stacey Mahoney for taking on multiple activities, having a vision and putting those to life. Also, thank you to our amazing Color Run planning team–Amy Begnal, William Zottneck, and Katie Schneider, we couldn’t have pulled off the Color Run event without you. Another shout out to Bryan Klein who does so much behind the scenes with his technological help.
There are so many others that have been active and involved and I want to say I appreciate you all.
Sincerely,
Teresa Syms

Teacher/Staff Appreciation week was full of sweet treats!
Staff had survival kits to grab, a fun candy letter and fresh fruit in the lounge!
Highlights were daily staff swag giveaways, a breakfast cart with coffee and light bites, and several boxes of Crumbl cookies to enjoy!

Scholastic Book Fair
Island View had a fantastic turnout for the Spring Book Fair and our Eagles bought approximately $15,000 in books (about the same as in previous book fairs). The proceeds from the Book Fair help Island View fund new books to keep the library’s stock healthy and relevant.

Walk & Wheels Event - Recap
We had a great turnout at the Walk & Wheels event on May 3! Thank you to all who made it out to help and participate! We had over 120 students walk or ride scooters/bicycles to school and it was an awesome time!
Island View Color Run- Recap
We had over 300 registrants for the Color Run on May 13, thank you all!
The Color Run fundraiser resulted in over $5000 in proceeds that supports the educational programming at Island View Elementary including items like field trips, school plays, purchasing gym gear, and meeting other school needs.
It also goes toward purchasing yearbooks, monthly popcorn days, supporting field day, and myriad other programs and initiatives.
Thank you Treva King for the video below.
Box Tops Program
Every bit helps and with losing the AmazonSmile funding stream (it was sunsetted by Amazon on Feb 20, 2023), your participation in the Box Top program is even more important.
Box Tops is an easy way to support Island View; the school can earn up to $1,000 a year when you earn box top credits (10 cents per box top). You can do this by scanning your paper and digital receipts using the Box Tops for Education app within 14 days of eligible purchases. If you’re buying things like fruit snacks, granola bars, certain cereals, cookie dough or pie crusts, and even cleaning supplies – you could be earning money for Island View. Why not get credit for the stuff you were going to buy anyway?
NOTE: Use this referral code A3N53R18 when you sign up and you’ll get 25 Bonus Box Tops ($2.50 value) when you scan your first receipt now through 05/31/2023, while supplies last!

Next Year Volunteer Opportunities
With families moving into middle school and positions changing, we have many volunteer opportunities available for next year. Whether as a chairperson or just helping, we need you.
An example of a few positions open for next year include chairpersons for:
- Family Fun Nights
- Book Fair
- Volunteer Chair
IMPORTANT: We also need someone with technology experience to help with the website, software, or other technology issues. There will be a full year to learn how everything works to ease the transition. Don't wait until the position is empty and then try to figure out everything on your own. If you have questions about what would need to happen in this role, please email webadmin@islandviewpta.org
There are many more opportunities. If anyone is interested for next year, please reach out to Teresa Syms at president@islandviewpta.org
