Principal's Message
Island View Families:
I cannot believe we have passed May Day. The halls are alive with vibrant paintings and images of spring flowers and sunshine. It is a great time to listen to birds, watch flowers bloom, and enjoy summer sunshine when we are lucky enough to get a good dose. 😊
One thing I love about our school community is our habit of mixing work and pleasure. Throughout the month of May, our students will complete state testing and district testing. For our 3rd-5th grade students, it will be both. And… right in the center of the testing window we have our all-school Color Run! I hope you can come out with your students and let joy rule the day.
As you know, June is a busy month. Please look for school emails regarding end-of-year events: field day, talent show, moving-up ceremony, and other field trips. Our school community is busy in beautiful ways.
As always, please contact me with your questions, concerns, and suggestions:
bhanrahan@asd103.org or at 360-503-1490.
Brian Hanrahan

Island View 2022-2023 Yearbook
This year, Island View PTA is using Treering as the yearbook platform. Softcover yearbooks cost $19.00 and Hardcover cost about $25.00. If you would like to purchase a yearbook, please do so by going to this link to create an account: Create Account (treering.com)
Or use this QR Code:
Families, please note: These yearbooks are purchased directly through the vendor, not through the PTA. The deadline to purchase these yearbooks and have them arrive at the school in time and without additional shipping costs is May 14, 2023. After that date, you can still order yearbooks, but you will need to pay for shipping to your address.
Financial assistance is available to purchase a yearbook for your child. Please contact us at president@islandviewpta.org.
Island View Color Run
Saturday, May 13 @ Island View Elementary (9am swag/t-shirt pickup, 9:30 race start time)
The 2023 Color Run is on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 9:30AM at Island View Elementary. Students and their loved ones will run/walk laps around Island View Elementary School while getting showered with brightly colored powder!
The deadline for registration with a guaranteed shirt/size was April 26, 2023. Registration is still open for anyone who would like to participate! Registration post April 26th is guaranteed a swag bag.
Register and find out more about the Color Run here: Island View Color Run Fundraiser | Island View Elementary PTA (islandviewpta.org)
This is one of our largest fundraisers to support the educational programs of Island View Elementary, and we can't do it without your support! As such, families can "opt in" their student runners to get them an individual online donation page which will help them earn a raffle ticket for each $10 donated through their page. On the day of the race, we will raffle off some great prizes (gift certificates, movie theater ticket packs, and more!)
An event this big requires volunteers. If you are interested and available, you can sign up to volunteer at the Color Run via this sign-up genius (thank you in advance!!): https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D44AEAD2DA3F58-color
If you have any questions please contact Committee Chairs William Zottneck at coach@coachwilliamjoseph.com or Amy Begnal at amybegnal@me.com.

Talent Show 2023 - Volunteers Needed
Island View’s annual talent show is back! It will take place Thursday, June 8, 2023. After Spring Break, Eagles had to audition and results for those acts that were selected will be coming out in the near future.
After acts are chosen for the talent show, our Eagles will be able to practice and perfect their acts in the Theater during lunch periods. Mr. Vecchione is seeking volunteer assistance during rehearsals and for the day of the performances (there will be two – Kinder - 2nd and 3rd - 5th). On the day of the performance, parents would assist with functions like backstage crowd control, assistance transitioning between acts, and DJing.
In general, it is anticipated that parents will be allowed to attend one of the two performances. Additional information will be released closer to the event.
To volunteer to help with the talent show, you must be cleared to volunteer by the District (it’s an easy form to fill out) and can be done by clicking on this link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NDU4OmVuLVVT
If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Karen at vicepresident@islandviewpta.org.

5th Grade Moving Up Ceremony
Friday, June 16
The time is near. The 5th Grade class will have their moving up ceremony on Friday, June 16.
We would love to make this event special for our Eagles as they transition into Middle School.
If anyone is interested in helping with the event (you don’t have to have a 5th grader graduating to help), please contact Amber Fry at hospitality@islandviewpta.org
Morning Reading & Math Assistance
Island View has kicked off an initiative for early morning reading and math assistance for our students. Currently, the program has seven volunteers matched with students that need support.
There is still a student need for assistance, but additional volunteers are needed to expand the program. Volunteers will work with students in grades K-5 on reading or math (depending on what the student needs support in, but right now the skill in greater demand is reading support).
Details / Volunteering time requirements:
Time: 8:30 - 9:05 (not every day; volunteers work this out with Ms. Frost)
Where: ISV Library
Who: K-5 students
What: Reading or Math Support
Contact: Monica Frost at mfrost@asd103.org
If interested, please reach out to Ms. Frost and let her know what age/grade level child you would prefer to work with, a subject preference, and a preferred day of the week.
Bike/Helmet Safety Event - Recap
The Bike Repair and Helmet Safety project was a hit! Local bike repair technicians were on the scene to help if they could, and some local firefighters gave out helmets to many that didn’t have a functioning one.
Principal Hanrahan commented early on that our numbers were great and more than expected, averaging similar numbers to what he saw pre-pandemic when we last held the event.
ISV PTA Meeting

Box Tops Program
Every bit helps and with losing the AmazonSmile funding stream (it was sunsetted by Amazon on Feb 20, 2023), your participation in the Box Top program is even more important.
Box Tops is an easy way to support Island View; the school can earn up to $1,000 a year when you earn box top credits (10 cents per box top). You can do this by scanning your paper and digital receipts using the Box Tops for Education app within 14 days of eligible purchases. If you’re buying things like fruit snacks, granola bars, certain cereals, cookie dough or pie crusts, and even cleaning supplies – you could be earning money for Island View. Why not get credit for the stuff you were going to buy anyway?
NOTE: Use this referral code A3N53R18 when you sign up and you’ll get 25 Bonus Box Tops ($2.50 value) when you scan your first receipt now through 05/31/2023, while supplies last!
Download the Box Tops for Education app through the link below:
If you don’t want to scan your receipt, the PTA has you covered. Just drop off receipts at the PTA mailbox in the front office within 14 days of the purchase and we’ll do the rest.
